This is a place for thinking through, for making meaning, for exploring ideas. As we move through the next unit, I'll be posting texts and excerpts (short pieces pulled out) of longer texts that we will read in class. Your job will be to post comments about each text showing the thinking you are doing.
Comments can include the following conversational moves:
- Make a statement about the meaning of a text or about how the author creates meaning in a text and support it with evidence from the text. Refer to your Smart Reader Questions
- Ask a question about the text:
- something you are confused about or
- something you wonder
- Build on the ideas of a classmate (an idea you heard in class or an idea that was posted in an earlier comment).
- Agree and elaborate
- Provide an additional example
- Agree about part of what someone says and challenge another part
- Explain why you are unsure about what someone has said
- Challenge the ideas of a classmate.
- Disagree politely and explain why
- Provide a counter-example
- Question whether an idea is true
